My Own Brief

A lot of experiential design is about new ideas. I like to keep experimenting with whatever I find interesting at the time. These posts are some of those experiments. Find more on my Instagram account @boodoo.me

Style development for a Graphic Novel I’m working on using my 3D design skills for backgrounds and drawing the characters by hand. EXT: The Observation Deck – a small, two-man air traffic control tower. Amber stands on the observation platform. “Late” She says, stowing the binoculars.

Children’s Book Illustration

April 14, 2019

Some pages from a children’s book I illustrated recently. I modelled these simply in SketchUp and added a lot of texture in Photoshop. I draw the characters by hand on my Wacom tablet and colour them digitally too. Have a look at the 360° version of the little girl’s room here.

Mixing metallic paints to get the right balance. The texture and the way it behaves in different light is so important to see first hand. For an upcoming Interior Design project.

Composite pots at Morley College

Composite pots at Morley College

August 18, 2018

My first composite pot made from different parts thrown separately, allowed to dry to harden a little and then re-thrown when put back together. This means I can make bigger pots than just throwing one at a time.

A Space For Hopes & Dreams

A Space For Hopes & Dreams

July 4, 2018

View this post on Instagram Hopes and Dreams. My favourite thing about making pots is that most of the object I’m creating is a void. This void gives you an opportunity to keep in it, whatever you want. That could be a plant, a letter opener, some pencils, salty sticks – or even your hopes … Read More

Glazed, hand-built ceramic boats I made for the palette painting I was working on a few posts back.
I want a flat shiny ceramic boat as a pop of colour in the foreground of the dusky, up-cycled, gouache painting.

I developed the outline illustration of the boat in Adobe Illustrator on Mac, from a photo I took … Read More

Cut out, masked, colourised, blended, and multiplied, these images are built on photographs from the web. White and grey squares are the matt for moving images to be applied. Green screen filmed in my living room.

My Music Cloud Installation

My Music Cloud Installation

September 18, 2016

So here’s one I thought of for a music-based cloud – wax pencil on a group of CD cases. For me, the brittle acrylic material captures the delicate nature of a physical cloud in the sky, and the use of CD cases and wax reference the music industry from two bygone ages.

Projection Mapping Experiment

Projection Mapping Experiment

December 29, 2015

Over the Christmas break, I had time to take the first steps in experimenting with projection mapping by buying a cheap projector and downloading the free VPT software. After creating a very simple animation in After Effects, I lined up the projection images with the edges of the box the projector came in. A very … Read More
