My Own Brief

A lot of experiential design is about new ideas. I like to keep experimenting with whatever I find interesting at the time. These posts are some of those experiments. Find more on my Instagram account @boodoo.me

Graphic Novel development

Graphic Novel development

December 14, 2019

Graphic Novel I’m working on using my 3D design skills for backgrounds and drawing the characters by hand. Covid has hit the Live Events community hard, so I decided to try and develop my software skills in the time we’ve had. After re-rendering a few of my previous projects in C4D with Arnold, I needed … Read More

Some pages from a children’s book I illustrated recently. I modelled these simply in SketchUp and added a lot of texture in Photoshop. I draw the characters by hand on my Wacom tablet and colour them digitally too. Have a look at the 360° version of the little girl’s room here.

Idea Ping Pong – The art of collaboration

October 26, 2017

“Jasmine Grey disappeared on the Moors. The woman who came back may have Jasmine’s face and speak with her voice, but Kate knows that this woman is not her mother. Will The Moors give up its secret in time?” The idea of Idea Ping Pong is to bounce ideas around. People from different disciplines come … Read More

Production Design Visuals in Photoshop

Production Design Visuals in Photoshop

October 7, 2016

Production Design visuals of film backgrounds for “Ithaca”, a short film about a long journey. Cut out, masked, colourised, blended, and multiplied, these images are built on photographs from the web. White and grey squares are the matt for moving images to be applied. Green screen filmed in my living room.

My Music Cloud Installation

My Music Cloud Installation

September 18, 2016

So here’s one I thought of for a music-based cloud – wax pencil on a group of CD cases. For me, the brittle acrylic material captures the delicate nature of a physical cloud in the sky, and the use of CD cases and wax reference the music industry from two bygone ages.

Projection Mapping Experiment

Projection Mapping Experiment

December 29, 2015

Over the Christmas break, I had time to take the first steps in experimenting with projection mapping by buying a cheap projector and downloading the free VPT software. After creating a very simple animation in After Effects, I lined up the projection images with the edges of the box the projector came in. A very … Read More

My First Mortise and Tenon

My First Mortise and Tenon

June 10, 2015

In order to replace some of the window frames in my flat, I need to know how to build new ones. The local adult education centre is running a woodworking class (amongst others) so tonight I learned how to make cut a mortise and tenon joint.
